A small pottery workshop was established in 1975, in Africa as a community fair trade project. It continues to give hope and opportunity today to over 200 women who make the solid clay beads. They are decorated in traditional and modern designs using metal oxides in the rich, colour glazes of which all are uniquely handmade.
“I visited this project in 2002 whilst witnessing the micro finance work in some of the largest slums in Africa. The workshop visit was delightful. The women spontaneously burst out in harmony whilst they worked. The sheer beauty of the beads blew me away. They capture the seasons of Africa. It is a wonderful story.” says, Christine Smalley.
