DIY Kits.

This Spring, Etelage is uncovering a collection of DIYs to suit all tastes, budgets & sizes. Etelage takes an eco & fair trade approach to jewellery making.
Choose the classic combination of red, navy & white to update your wardrobe with a

nautical look.

Select chunky vintage Lucite vintage rings or retro Czech glass chokers & necklaces.
Escape to an exotic world of

Orientalism,

with the comeback of

Sex in the City.

Why don’t you adorn yourself with a statement choker; the queens of the catwalk this season? Australian Beading Magazine (Vol 4#3) features our Egyptian inspired multi strand necklace on their front cover. Using chunky Czech glass beads, semi precious almonds & features filigree spacer bars. Alternatively make an Eclectic Chunky Necklace. Mix Vintage Lucite, crochet & wood. DIY “Geo African” is featured in Australian Beading (Vol4 #4).Simply string together.
As the weather warms up & we bare our shoulders once again it’s time to create instant glamour. Make some

chandelier earrings.

“100 Best ever Projects” magazine features one idea which is available as a DIY project. Here are some other ideas:
• Attach multiple filigree stampings & embellish with Swarovski diamantes. DIY Project Austrlian Beading (Vol4 #4) "Princess Earring"
• Create a gypsy hoop cluster. Kits available in turquoise, blush, pearl & jet.
• Attach a length of individually linked beads to a stamping for a linear look.

Best Fit:

All kits are designed to be worn at a length that best suits you. Adjust the length accordingly.
• For petites try a layered look with a few longer strands of complementary beads to give you more height.
• For busty torsos keep the length just above the bust line.

Date for your diary: Master Classes in spring

Five artists from a variety of disciplines share their skills, experience & passion to create bespoke jewellery in a series of master classes this spring.

Patrick is offering a finishing off

peyote

workshop on Sat Sept 25. Learn basic Peyote stitch & how to finish your work off using seed beads & buttons as clasps.
Patrick also returns for another weekend workshop on Nov 13/14.

Nanda is teaching a basic

crochet

stitch using wire on Sat Oct 23. The course will then be followed by an intermediate workshop.
Crochet offers so much flexibility in what you can create from flat open wirework to 2D & 3D sculpture.

Raphael inspired us with his

vintage

workshop. He will be travelling overseas in Sept/Oct so we have to wait until Nov 20/21 before we see him again.
The workshop offers many thrifty tips: how to use found objects, broken beads & chain scraps in your designs. Again he will show you how easy it is to mould, embellish & bake polymer clay to create unique jewellery.

Jo returns with some bead

weaving

workshops. Create a beaded bracelet on Sat Sept 11. Use right angle weave & brick stitch to create a Deco inspired bracelet cuff.
Create delicately woven cocktail rings using crystals & seed beads on Sat Oct 30. They are gorgeous & very easy to make up. Impress your friends & create some for Christmas presents.

Wire Tips.

Rigid wire can be bent, coiled, twisted, woven and manipulated to form different shapes and link beads together. Wire is available in different gauges, hardness, shape, finish and colour. Wire is measured in millimetres except in the USA where it is measured by gauge known as the Standard Wire Gauge or SWG*.
SWG* Thickness When do you use it?

Jewellery.

Designer Christine Smalley, is inspired by juxpositions. From smooth & cut, matt & shiny, to horn & crystal and minimalist & embellishment. This is evident in her unusual colour combinations, highly textured and eclectic compostions. Her collections are characterised by unique components, with a focus on vintage, quirky, community trade & eco components sourced globally.

Vision.

When confronted with the numerous ethical issues raised by modern western society, especially with regards to business and finance, Etelage has always endeavoured to remain true to it's "grass roots" commitment of:
  • an awareness of the origin of our products - ethical trade,
  • high-quality bespoke craftsmanship,
  • sustainability – sourcing vintage & eco components,
  • respect for time honoured traditions.
