What is Crochet?

A needlework technique in which bead-strung wire is interwoven in loops, by means of a single hooked needle. The crochet hook does not pass through the beads, but it is used to hook only the wire, which locks the beads in place between loops. At its simplest, this is simple and quick stringing technique. After mastering a few stitches, crochet can be used to make sculptural components for your unique jewellery.

Necklace: Create a multi strand necklace using wire & embroidery beads.

Skill Level: absolute beginners

Mesh Cuff: Learn to crochet using a variety of Czech glass beads & fine English wire in an amazing array of colours.

Skill Level: intermediate

Sculpture: Create a modern choker with wire & leather.

Skill Level: intermediate

Earrings: “Galaxy” using wire & small Czech glass beads.

Skill Level: intermediate

Workshop Details:

  • Skill Level:
    Absolute Beginners: no experience in crochet necessary. Learn basic crochet technique.
    Intermediate: the ability to crochet. Wire mesh cuff and wire sculpture classes availabe.

Tutor: Nanda Altavilla

Our talented tutor, became obsessed with small shiny objects when she accompanied her Mum to work in a bridal shop. Nanda learned to crochet at nine, taught by a friend of the family. However it was not until much later that she discovered that crocheting with wire and beads can make unique and beautiful jewellery. Nanda is a local resident, a scientist & Mum. Join Nanda in one of her workshops listed above & learn how easy it is to use wire & beads to create beautiful designs.

Booking Information:

  •  All workshops must be paid in full at time of booking.
  • Cancellations:

A $50 booking fee will be charged for any cancellations and where less than 72 hours notice is given there is no refund permitted.

Etelage reserves the right to cancel or postpone any class due to workshop numbers or a tutors unforeseen absence. You will be offered an alternative course, credit for a future workshop or a full refund.
