These monthly one off workshops are technique driven. Learn basic techniques of jewellery making along with professional finishing touches & tips.
Level: Beginners

90 Bits and Pieces - $59.95
Design & create your own embellished cuff or cocktail ring plus a linked chain pendant or earrings all in 90 minutes. Fossick through trays of vintage & modern bits & pieces: brass filigree, crystals, cameos & stones to create your own pieces of jewllery. Learn how to embellish using glue and link beads and charms.

Linking Beads - $55.00
Learn how to individually link beads to make a bead chain. Linking is a technique used to make earrings, necklaces, bracelets and chokers. You will make a linked crystal choker & earrings and finish the pieces in your choice of colour.
Etelage recommends doing both the stringing workshop and linking workshop on the same day as they are the two most commonly used techniques in costume jewellery making. The workshops run back to back.

Embroided Embellished Bib - $149.00
Learn to hand sew onto leather backed with felt. You are the designer. Choose from a selection of coloured felts and leathers. Embellish with Czech glass bold shapes plus delicate brass filigrees.
Optional: small embroidery beads are available if students want their work to be super embellished. (Finish at home.)

Natalie has been hand stitching for over 20 years, has a diploma in Theatre Costume and previously worked extensively in theatre, film and events.

Making Brooches is Easier Than You Think:

- You also don't have to measure when making a brooch, as one size fits all.
In this workshop create 3 brooches using a combination of retro fabrics, leather & felt.

Woven Cocktail Ring Duo
Using a vintage Swarovksi rivoli (a type of multi-faceted foiled glass stone manufactured by Swarovski first used in costume jewelry in the 1950s and '60s) as a stunning centre piece weave around it to create an embellished frame with seed beads and small crystals. Learn circular peyote & right angle weave stiches. Make 2 rings or a pair of earrings. Choice of 3 colours.
Heidi Rathbone designs intricate woven jewellery under her own label. She began making beaded jewellery when she was a young girl, she has had many creative hobbies including sewing, knitting, drawing, painting, book making, embroidery, and many others but beading has always been her true passion. She began teaching bead weaving classes in 2006 at age 17 and has been teaching and selling her beadwork ever since. “I love my work, I will never stop beading.”

Wire Crochet - $99.00
A technique driven class. Learn basic crochet stitches using coloured wire and small glass Czech beads to make your own crochet jewellery.
Once you have mastered the crochet basics try some intermediate crochet workshops in 2 D sculpture and wire mesh cuffs.
Nanda Altavilla became obsessed with small shiny objects when she accompanied her Mum to work in a bridal shop. She learned to crochet at nine, taught by a friend of the family. However it was not until much later that she discovered that crocheting with wire and beads can make unique and beautiful jewellery. Nanda is a local resident, a scientist and Mum.
